Gript alerts you when something needs your attention: a mention, an assignment, a status change, an approaching due date. This guide covers the bell icon, the notification panel, and how to tune what you get notified about, explained simply, with no jargon.
1
What is a Notification?
In plain English: a small alert that tells you something happened.
A notification is a short alert telling you something changed that involves you: somebody mentioned you, assigned you a task, replied to your comment, or a due date is coming up.
The bell
Where they arrive.
The panel
Where you read them and act on them.
Your preferences
Where you decide what is worth telling you.
It lives in the bell
Click the bell icon in the top bar to see everything waiting for you, with an unread count on the badge.
It is grouped by type
The All, Messages, Emails, and Alerts tabs split your notifications by what kind of thing they are.
It is tunable
Settings lets you turn each type on or off, choose delivery channels, and override defaults per board.
You do not need to change any settings to get started. Sensible defaults are already on, including assignments and mentions.
2
The Bell Icon
Where every notification starts.
The bellBehaviour
WhereIn the top bar.
The badgeHow many are unread, on its top right corner. It caps at 99+.
Opening and closingClick the bell to open the panel; click it again, or click outside, to close it.
Opening the bell marks everything read. Clicking the bell to open the panel clears the unread badge and marks every notification read right away, not just the one you go on to click. If a fresh notification arrives while the panel is already open, the badge and a Mark all read button reappear in the panel so you can clear it too.
3
The Notification Panel
What opens when you click the bell.
Across the top of the panelWhat it does
The titleWith the current unread count beside it.
Mark all readOnly appears once something is unread.
Clear allPermanently removes whatever is currently listed. On a specific tab it reads Clear Messages, Clear Emails or Clear Alerts and only clears that category.
Under thoseThe four category tabs, then the list itself.
When there are a lotA Load more button at the bottom of the All tab.
4
The Four Tabs
Every notification lands in exactly one category, based on what kind of event caused it.
TabWhat lands here
AllDefault. Every notification, unfiltered, newest first.
MessagesComments, shares, assignments, and @mentions, the notifications that come from a person doing something involving you.
EmailsNotifications about an email reply linked to an item.
AlertsEverything else: due date and other reminders, automations, approval requests, SLA alerts, and feedback tickets.
The number next to Messages, Emails, or Alerts is that tab's own unread count, not the total. The badge on the bell itself is the total across all tabs.
5
Acting on a Notification
Three things you can do with any row in the list.
1
Click it
Marks it read and takes you straight to what it is about (the item, comment, or thread). While a reply box is open on a row, clicking the row will not navigate away.
2
Reply inline (comment notifications only)
Comment notifications get a Reply button. It opens a small text box right in the panel. Press Enter to send (Shift+Enter for a new line) or Escape to cancel. On success it briefly shows Reply sent, then slides the notification out and removes it.
3
Delete
Every notification has a trash icon button that removes it immediately. There is no undo.
The Reply button only appears on comment notifications. Everything else (mentions, assignments, reminders, and so on) can be opened or deleted, but not replied to from the panel.
6
Notification Preferences
Global switches that apply everywhere, unless a board or item overrides them.
Open Settings › Notifications (gear icon, or Ctrl+, / Cmd+,) for the global toggles that control which events notify you at all. They are arranged in three groups:
Activity
SettingWhat it does
Task assigned to meWhen someone assigns you to a task.
MentionsWhen someone mentions you in a comment or update.
Task completedWhen a task you are involved in is marked done.
Account
SettingWhat it does
New member joinedWhen someone new joins your workspace.
Board shared with meWhen someone shares a board with you.
Digest and quiet hours
SettingWhat it does
Weekly summaryA once-a-week email that rounds up your activity.
Quiet hoursPauses notifications during set hours. On by default, from 10 PM to 8 AM.
7
Deadline Reminders
The global default for due date alerts. A board, or a single task, can override it.
The Deadline reminders card is the top of the cascade for every task with a due date. Turn the master switch off and automatic due-date reminders stop everywhere at once, though an individual board or task can still switch them back on.
Start reminding
How far ahead of the due date the daily reminders begin: on the due date, 1, 2, or 3 days before, or 1 week before. Once started, they repeat daily until the task is done.
Send at
The time of day the reminder goes out, in your own timezone. Pick any hour on the clock.
How you're reminded is three toggle chips, and any combination of them can be on at once:
In-app
A notification in the bell panel.
Email
An email to your account address.
Sticky
A sticky note pushed to your screen.
8
Board and Item Watch Levels
Fine-grained control you set on the board or the item itself, using its eye icon, not on the settings page.
Board notification level
To set a notification level for one board, use the eye icon next to the bell on that board.
LevelWhat reaches you
All activityEverything that happens on the board.
ParticipatingOnly the things you are involved in.
OffNothing from this board.
The choice takes effect straight away and stays until you change it.
Watched items
Watch a single item no matter what its board's level is, using the eye control in that item's detail panel. Switching it off again also stops that item's automatic watch-based reminders.

Common Questions
Quick answers to what people ask most.
Does opening the bell mark everything as read, or just what I click?
Everything. Clicking the bell to open the panel immediately marks every current notification read and clears the badge, not only the one you go on to click. New notifications that arrive while the panel stays open bring the badge and the Mark all read button back.
What is the difference between the Messages, Emails, and Alerts tabs?
Messages covers person-to-person events: comments, shares, assignments, and @mentions. Emails covers email replies linked to an item. Alerts covers everything else: due date and other reminders, automations, approval requests, SLA alerts, and feedback tickets.
Which notifications can I reply to from the panel?
Only comment notifications get a Reply button, since only those are tied to a specific comment on a specific item. Everything else can be opened or deleted, but not answered inline.
What happens if I turn off Task assigned to me?
You stop getting notified when someone assigns you a task. The assignment itself still happens; you simply are not alerted about it.
What is the difference between the global Deadline reminders default and a board or task override?
Deadline reminders in Settings sets your baseline for every task with a due date: whether reminders are on, how many days ahead they start, what time they send, and which channels deliver them. A board or a single task can override any of that.
How do I stop watching an item?
Open the item and switch off the watch (eye) control in its detail panel. That also switches off its automatic watch-based reminders.
How do I stop deleting notifications one at a time?
Use Clear all in the panel header to remove everything in the current view at once, or switch to a specific tab first and use Clear Messages, Clear Emails, or Clear Alerts to clear just that category.
