Once you have shared a task with somebody outside your workspace, they can talk to you about it and you can answer, on the task, instead of in an email thread nobody else can find. Your own internal notes sit in the same place, clearly marked, and the outside person can never see them.
This appears only on a task you have shared through an update request. On any other task the tab is the ordinary Comments tab and none of this applies.
Open a shared task and the Comments tab is now called Messages. Inside it is one timeline holding two kinds of entry:
Internal notes
Tinted amber and labelled "Only your team sees this". These are the ordinary comments your colleagues have always written, mentions and all.
Client messages
The back and forth with the outside person. Plain, and the only thing they can see.
They are kept apart underneath and only brought together on this one screen, for you. The page the outside person looks at asks only for the client messages, so a note cannot leak whatever it says.
2
Writing
One switch decides who hears you.
The box at the bottom has a two-way switch above it.
SettingWhat happens
Client replyGoes to the outside person. The send button reads Send to client. Mentions are hidden here, because a mention would mean nothing to somebody who is not in your workspace.
Internal noteStays with your team. The whole box turns amber so you can see at a glance who you are about to talk to, mentions come back, and the button reads Add note.
If nobody outside has been given the task yet, the client side of the switch is disabled and says so, and only notes are possible.
Ask AI sits in this box as it does elsewhere in Gript, so you can have a reply drafted or a blunt sentence softened before it goes out. See AI Assistant.
3
One conversation per person, not one per task
Every update request has its own conversation on the task. Share the same task with a second company and that starts a fresh thread: the new person never sees what the first one wrote, and neither of them learns the other exists.
When a task has more than oneWhat you see
A Conversations listBeside the timeline. A rail on a wide panel, a dropdown on a narrow one.
Each entryWho is in it.
A Group badgeMore than one guest is on that conversation.
A Revoked badgeYou have withdrawn that link.
Picking oneYour reply goes to that conversation.
Earlier messagesWhere anything from before conversations existed is gathered.
4
Checking what they can see
At the top of the tab, next to the name of the person you are talking to, is a Preview as client tick box. Turn it on and every internal note disappears, leaving exactly what they see.
It takes two seconds, and it is worth doing before you send anything sensitive, or whenever somebody asks "what have we actually told them?".
Bringing another outside person into an existing conversation:
1
Open The Hub, then Update Requests
Every link you have shared is listed there.
2
Pick the request and choose Edit
This is the same link the conversation belongs to.
3
Add them under Recipients
They get the task, the full history and their own invitation email. A brand new request would start a separate conversation instead.
5
What it looks like from their side
On their sideWhat they get
A speech-bubble buttonOn each task on their portal page.
Clicking itSlides a Messages panel in from the right, with their conversation and a box to write in.
The panelThey can drag it wider.
While you typeThey see that somebody on your side is writing.
They never see your internal notes, the other conversations on that task, your other tasks, or anything else in your workspace. A recipient whose link is read-only can read the thread but not add to it.
Could an internal note ever reach the client?
No. Notes and client messages are stored separately and the page they see only ever asks for client messages. The single screen where the two appear together is the team side, in Gript, behind your login.
Where did my Comments tab go?
Nowhere. On a shared task it is renamed Messages and now holds your comments plus the client thread. Everything you wrote before is still there, as internal notes.
Does anybody get told about a new message?
Yes, and only the other side, never the person who just wrote it. Your team gets a bell notification every time, plus an email if they are not currently in Gript. The outside person gets an email with a link back to their page, unless that link has message emails switched off.
What happens to the conversation if I revoke the link?
The thread stays on the task, marked Revoked, so you keep the record. They lose access immediately.
Can I attach a file to a client message?
Yes, and they can send one back. Attachments travel both ways.
